Dear Folks,
now that Christmas and New Year's Eve are again just around the corner, you may ask what Guesty is planning to do this year.
Well, actually he wanted to do ... nothing. Just lazing around, watching kitschy X-mas movies and stuffing himself with gingerbread and cinnamon cookies.
But yesterday we got an urgent letter from Rudolph (maybe you remember that last year Guesty celebrated Christmas with the red-nosed reindeer, and he even was allowed to help pulling the sledge).
To cut a long story short, Rudolph is down with the flu, got it from his reindeer chum Donner, and his red nose just won't stop running. That's why Guesty will have to be running - to Lapland - to pull the sledge, you know? Otherwise there won't be presents this year :- (
So, on Tuesday Guesty will pack his bags to head for the icy North. This little bulky book ... always involved in adventures. Me, on the other hand, I'll spent the holidays with my family as usual - but for sure this will be nice as well :- )
And Guesty has promised to throw down snow and nuts and chocolate gingerbread men for us when flying above our heads on Christmas Eve. Don't you promise too much, little bulky book! I'm sure you will eat all that sweet stuff yourself ;- )
Anyway, we wish you a cosy Christmas time and a beautiful, dazzling new year 2009! We'll be back for you on 7 January. Take care and don't you drink too much eggnog :- D
Insa :- ) and Guesty :o )

Okay, I'm back. My mum has called me and then my computer doesn't works.
Thank you for your tips!
Accent, that's not easy. I've seen a girl, that had (she's German) an accent when she has spoken English, that was funny.
What you're meaning with science? (Of course I've understand the word, but not what you're meaning with it)!
Your tips are very good. Some of them (the most I think) I know, but thank you very much! It helps.
--------------------------------------------
When we speak an other language we have an other voice, that's funny. I've seen it at the TV. Cornelia Funke-my life. (I don't know, was it comeing in England too?) It's interesting.

Yes, time passes quickly! I live in Glienicke, Brandenburg. But half year ago I've lived in an other town.
You're meaning grades (ist das nicht das Wort für Zensuren in Englisch?)? My grades have plummeted too. That's stupid, but I've the luck, that I don't have to go at school in an English speaking country!
Wait... I write more, but my mom!...

I'm so happy all of a sudden, because yesterday I just heard from a friend, that (der junge in den ich verliebt bin auch verliebt in mich ist). I don't know how to say it in Englisch, we don't speak about such things in our English, Biology or Geopgraphy lessons. And now I'm really really happy, because tomorrow I will visit him - for the first time. Oh, I'm so excited! It's the first time he likes me too, don't has already a girlfriend and is not my old friend from the kindergarten.
Well, I hate all headphones, because they never stay where they should stay.
And don't worry about forgetting German words, it always happens to me. If you would ask what the stage of a microscope is called in German, I couldn't tell it without using a dictionary. If you wanted to know what Urban Landscape means in German I had to look it up, too. And I even forgot the German word for messed up, even if I know what it means.
What are your favourite books? My favourite books are so many, they don't have space in two shelves. But some of them are: The Inkhearttrilogy(English and German), Eragon (English), Harry Potter 1-7 (English), twilight, new moon and eclipse (Englisch and German) and of course some more books by Cornelia Funke (the Thief Lord for example) and so on. Many.

Dear Alex,
Hey! I was just looking around I saw a question that I never answered (or saw, for that matter) from vous to moi (it was back in January, that seems ages ago now, doesn't it?)... Okay, the answer is no, my name is actually not Maeve *gasp* you found me out! Actually, my name's Angie, but I didn't want to use it cuz somebody already had it. Anyhoo, tanx for answering my quiz, and there's another below!!:D p.s. What grade are you in?
Dear Insa, I was just looking around, and I have this great idea... You should put a HUGE sign or something on this website where everyone can see... INKDEATH IS COMING OUT IN AUTUMN 2008. hahaha just kidding... it just seems that every other person is asking when (myself included, but id don't remember when) the third book is coming out! hope you have a great February 29th!
*A QUIZ FOR EVERYONE!!!!!*
(I don't know why I love doing these things, I just do!)
1) What book are you reading right now?
2) What is the weather like right now where you are?
3) List a word you really like. (c'mon, I know you have one, it doesn't even have to be real!)
4) What's your favorite black-and-white movie, or if you don't have one, what's your favorite cartoon movie?
*My Answers*
1)I'm reading "Around the World in 80 Days". It's pretty good, better than I thought it would be. Y'know what they say, you can't beat the classics (sometimes)
2) The weather is still kinda cold, but the snow's melting. Today it was about 50 degrees (fahrenheit, of course)
3) I like the word "kaboozle"
Gota go! answer more later!
*** I've already posted the info on the third book in our FAQs (Why-section). Best wishes! Insa *** |

Winnie-
I was just re-reading some messages, and I noticed you said you hate Eragon. Why? I LOVE Eragon! (and it's sequel, Eldest) I'm dying to read the last book in the series, I'm almost as anxious as I am about Inkdeath... but I agree the movie was awful. Did you read the book or watch the movie first? My opinion? The movie puts the book to shame. If I ever published a book, and a company wanted to make a movie out of it, I would make sure, I'm a part of it, so they don't leave out - all - my- favorite - PARTS! Also, they forgot some very important points... if they're going to make a movie for Eldest as well, it's going to be very hard because they left out all the keypoints in the first one, choosing to highlight all the fighting scenes instead. The character's emotions were all wrong! Murtagh for example (in the book) was very reluctant to go to the Varden, because of his secret. In the movie it's just like quote: "To the Varden it is!" Secret or no secret! You could tell the director didn't read the book-- at least not with his heart. Like when you're reading but you're not taking anything in, cause you really don't give a d*mn what the book is about... that's what it looked like to me. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading the book, but I practically fell asleep watching the movie... I literally - fell- a - SLEEP! It was so bad. I wonder how Mr. Paolini must have felt about it... His totally awesome book-- turned worthless just like that. *snaps fingers*
Let me know if you don't care what I wrote. I just felt I should get this in here somehow.
Have you read Eldest? You should. I would definitely recommend the BOOKS to anyone, but I would also advise them not to watch the movie...
Then again, most movies turn out worse than the book... just none of them as bad as Eragon.
Gwyn
PS: I wonder if Inkheart will be just as bad as Eragon? Hopefully not! I love Inkheart! |

Ach jaaaa! Wohnmobil... ich habe das ganz vergessen! Mann! ich muss dringend zurück nach Deutschand um mein Deutsch zu üben... Ich will es nicht verlieren. :(
*Must stay stroooooong....*
Yes you did say that before. *See your previous messages if you don't know what I'm talking about*
The Open Door.... I'll see if I can find it next time I go to the mall. (Funny, in Stuttgart, they don't even have malls) When I came here I didn't even know what a mall was! LOL. ^_^
Haha, I never do my chores... (you called it jobs, in English that means chores, but I know what you mean...) why is it that mothers yell so much anyway? It's not like we're deaf or anything... (just to practice my German, deaf means "taub", right?)
I got an i-pod for christmas last year, but it's harder to fall asleep to it, because the headphones keep falling out... very annoying.
No I don't know either the book or the movie you mentioned, but now that I do, I will hunt them down! :D No book is safe from me... (except school text books)
Wow! Talk about extreme mood swings... no offense. All I'm confused about is why you're so happy all of a sudden? Emotions come out in writing and there was lots of emotion in yours for sure... but please just don't go all giggly on me. Other than that, I'm cool with the mood swings, too. ^_^
Meggie2-
Yes, I'm convinced your English is better than mine was, when I first came to Canada in September 2005... gosh, that's almost 3 years! Time passes quickly doesn't it?
What part of Germany do you live in? I used to live in Stuttgart, Baden-Würtemberg. But I always spelt that wrong...
Yeah, it was real hard. The elementary school (Grundschule) I went to, had a English-Only Policy so I wasn't allowed to speak German. So I took my diary along every day and used that as conversation. :) Sure, Books don't talk, especially when you can't read them out loud, and since diaries (Tagebücher) are just about your own boring every day life they're not extremely exciting or anything, either... I made a mistake by isolating myself from the others. This way it took me even longer to learn English (well okay, so I'd learned English in Germany before as well, but like I said, it wasn't very good) and my grades plummeted. I usually had 1s and 2s in Germany, but then I started having Bs and Cs (in German terms that's 2s and 3s) when I came here. I caught up with the rest of the class eventually and now my grades are mostly Bs (2s) and sometimes the occasional A (1) :) That's probably because of my curious nature and my tendency to ask questions. So everytime I hear a word in english that I don't understand I ask what it means. feel free to do the same. Any other hints I could give you for moving to a country where they speak a different language...
1. Always try to imitate their accent, it will help your pronounciation, and people will understand you better.
2. Always ask questions if you don't understand.
3. DO NOT try to use german idioms. Trust me. I know. Don't use german slang either, unless you know they mean the same thing in english...
4. Have a dictionary handy. You never know when you're gonna need it.
5. Whatever happens, NEVER forget your German! It's no use learning English, if you're gonna forget German. It's always better to be bilingual, as well. ^_^
That's pretty much it... hope it helps, if you ever decide to visit Canada or America or Australia or England or, or, or...
P.S.: How about science? I think that's H.u.S. in German, (Heimat und Sach- kunde) but I'm not sure...
Insa-
Aaaaaaah! Why, why, why? Why did I write my story in English but in the German guestbook? Why couldn't you move it to the english one? Why am I spazzing over it? waaa! I'm so sad... *I'm laughing as I write it.* I was really messed up so I wrote my ENGLISH story in the GERMAN guestbook! God, I'm sooo stupid! I'll dye my hair, change my name, and move off the planet! *I'm being sarcastic and I'm exaggerating, so don't worry, okay?*
I had it coming. I'm like the ULTIMATE person at embarrasing myself. I should have seen it coming. I should have known that it wouldn't be long until SOMETHING happened that would make me want to die. *Not really, but almost...* So now I'm sitting here, wondering wether I should just stop writing in the guestbook altogether to avoid embarrassing myself even more (it WILL happen again, no doubt about it) but that irritating voice in my head is telling me to stay and usually when I get in an argument with that voice, the voice wins. *waiting five minutes* Okay. The voice just won. I'm staying in the guestbook, but I'm gonna try to avoid embarrassing situations. ^_^
P.S.: Do you think I should write the story in the english guestbook too then? (Like I intended to do in the first place)?
*** Hi Gwyn, I'm sorry, I just forgot to post the story in the English guestbook for you. I'll do it right now. Hugs! Insa :- ) *** |

| Inkheart & Inkspell are my favorite books and they are rich in plot and will keep you wanting more. Farid and Meggie should get together and I cried when I read about Meggie and Resa reuniting. Dustfinger is an awesome guy and is Roxane's perfect match and she should be nice to Farid. The series is, like Mo's sign states, a story that should be chewed and digested thoroughly. |

Dear Everyone
How are you all doing? I hope that your answer was fine or something along those lines, because if it wasn't then I'll be very upset and sad for you.
Insa, is there a preferred way to get a letter to Miss Funke, because I sent a letter to her............. My bothersome older brother just opened the door to the room where we keep the computer and I told him to go away and he called me a whiner, do you think that was fair? Anyway where was I? Ah, yes! I sent Cornelia a letter, but I'm not sure if I put enough postage on it, so would it be better if I sent my next letter to the New York publishing house, or should I send it to the one in England?
One I would think is closer therefore she would get it quicker, but that is just my opinion.
YOURS TRULY,
Cody
*** Hi Cody, if you live in the States you can send your letter to Scholastic (New York). As for your older brother, I have two older brothers and they loved to bug and tease me. Just ignore it ;- ) *** |

Hello!!
Oh! Most of my friends say, I’m good in school, but in the last time, I have more Stress, and not good notes But my problem is English…
@meggie 2
Thank you!
I don’t know. On the one hand, I haven’t a good articulation and I have a big problem with the times (I hadn’t …ähm… (aufgepasst) when I was in class 5)
On the other side, I like the towns and wanted to study a year in New York (when I had the money). I think, that must be very interesting (and my English is so bad, I know!!) I don’t like the English lessons and I’m not good in English, but I think it’s good to write with people from other countries you can you change (austauschen) about the traditions and I hope to improve my English.

@Gwin: Thank you. Sure, that my english is better than your's, until you came to Canada? When you're going to Canada?
My English teacher is... yes, you can say okay. But the lessons are very boring
(I'm good in school english, but it doesn't change, that's boring). I mean, here in the guestbook we can talk about... everything. Cornelia Funke and other interesting things. In school we talk about... yes, about boring family things, we make little conversations and that's all. Was it hard for you, to speak English in an English speaking country? I think for me it would be.
And I agree: Maths is horrible!
@Insa: Thank you, that you make this website so good! If it wouldn't give this website, I couldn't better my English.

Hi Gwyn!
Well, a motor home is also called "Wohnmobil" in German. And moving is horrible, but I don't have any problems with a new surrounding. I actually hate staying at one place for a longer time (did I say that before?).
I like some more songs from Evanescence, too, but I don't know the names. I only know that they all are in the album "The open door".
When I hear music before going to bed, I always listen to it on my mp3-player, so my mother and nobody else can hear it. And my mom nearly always shouts at me, just because I hate doing my jobs at home...
Do you know the book "Skulduggery Pleasant"? When I read it I had to laugh and laugh and laugh. Well, it's fiction but it's really funny, too. At least it is in german. And do you know the film "Van Helsing"? I love this film!
Oh, by the way, please don't be confused when I repeat myself, I'm a bit ... confused at the moment. Okay, I always are a bit. And now, I'm extremely happy, too! |

Okay, People. I figured if I want to improve my writing, I'm gonna have to get people's opinions and revision ideas. (Cornelia Funke says revision makes writing sparkle, right?) And I'm sure most of the people on this site are bookworms and some even writers, themselves. So what better place to get those revision ideas than from the people in this guestbook right?
Okay, so this is only a first draft and as you can see I've even writen myself a note, which should definitely not be in there in the final copy...
Please let me know what you think of it. :)
"Do you have any idea how this will affect us?" He roared and turned around slowly. "It could mean the extinction of our race!"
The devils bowed shamefully to their master.
"Yes, sire. We're sorry, we--"
"Don't give me any of that!" He cut them off, hissing scornfully. "I can't hear myself think. You know, all of you, you can only blame yourselves for losing. With that power, the angels can and will wipe us out completely. Our only hope is to get it back, otherwise we are surely lost! Understand?"
The hell creatures sank down into the gloom even more.
"Yes sire. We understand, sire." They muttered simultaneously, although none of them were quite sure what he really meant.
He smirked, revealing a terrifying collection of needle-sharp teeth.
"So what do you suppose your punishment will be? Your failure may be the end of us, yet." A low growl. His iron gaze bore holes into his servants' petrified eyes. They shuddered in unison, and stared fearfully at their master.
"Punishment?"
The dark beast roared. One of the devils twitched, they all knew what was coming. Or thought they did. For it turned out this was how he laughed.
"Oh, you think you can let the angels steal what is possibly the most powerful demonic soul of all, when you could have stopped them; and still get away with it without punishment? Hysterical!" he growled for the second time, but he wasn't laughing or even smiling this time as he said it. He was grinning, but it wasn't the kind of grin that meant he was enjoying himself. It was an evil grimace rather than a grin; and it meant just that: he was thinking up what would later be known as the most painful thing a devil could endure, the ultimate punishment, something only true evil would fear. Something far more dangerous to the hell creatures than their master's wrath, though he didn't like the idea of anything being more powerful than himself.
"Don't you ever wonder what angels' tears would feel like... inside of you?" He asked menacingly. [must replace "menacingly" with a better word, it just doesn't sound right and doesn't belong here...)
They all whimpered fearfully. Not one of them dared to look up. Every soul in hell knew, an angel's tears were poison to a devil, as angels, being loving creatures, would only cry of pure sorrow, they cried for love; and love was lethal to the creatures born of hellfire. Angels' tears were almost like acid to devils. The creatures couldn't be killed, thus would have to feel agony for all eternity, should they be stupid enough to drink it. They shivered, knowing their master was the only devil in hell cruel enough to own a few drops, though he himself feared it just as much as any of his countless devil servants. He only used it for extreme torture.
"Well," he purred, "How about it then? Find the demon girl and bring her to me... or else."
*****
Later the same night
"Well fancy that!" mumbled the devil, "He didn't punish us. Must be our lucky day..."
His mate sneered. "No he didn't punish us. But he DID threaten us with angels' tears, you bloke! And all cause we lost one demon. 'Fancy that!'," he mimicked, irritatingly.
"I know, idiot. I heard him too. He said if we could find the demon kid, he'll spare us. So it's easy right? Just set our red demon slaves on 'em and they'll do all the hard work for us. We'll just have to--"
"Don't make me say the G-word, partner. You talk way too much. Don't repeat everything the master said, we all heard him for ourselves." Although none of us understood a word of what he said. he added in his mind.
After listening to the two arguing for a while, the third of the devils spoke up for the first time that night. "See, what I don't understand is how a single demon could possibly be this important, that the master would think it could cause our extinction. It doesn't make any sense. We're devils. Far superior to some measly demon slave. And to think this demon is only a child! It's laughable, really."
What none of them knew, that demon was part of a prophecy that would change the course of destiny for humans, demons, devils, and angels, alike.
This is where the real story begins, with that very demon, who is anything but weak and powerless.
If you think I have any talent at all, tell me. If you think I should keep writing, tell me. If you think I should trash it, tell me. If you think you want to know how this story goes, tell me. If you're not thinking anything at all, because it's so boring, you fell asleep, well-- tell me that, too. I really want to know where I need improvement and what my strong points are (if I even have any). So please, don't leave me hanging, I'm dying to know what you guys think of it. :)
Fee-

do you guys think it was good?If I have time, maybe I can translate it and put it in the German guestbook as well... but only if you think it's good enough to be there. I don't wanna waste anyone's time, especially not twice in a row...

wow, a motor home... er, what exactly is a motor home? Like when you live in a ...um what's it called... I think it's Omnibus in German???
By relocate you mean move, right? I don't really like to move, but i do love to travel! I've been to a lot of countries... Germany, Canada, US, Switzerland, Phillippines, France, Italy... I can't think of all of them right now, but those are the ones I know for sure. :)
Haha, yeah I did that a few times, too... left the music playing all night. I snoozed off and forgot to turn it off. I was already dreaming when it got to a particularly loud song, and my mom burst into my room at 1:30 AM demanding I shut the stereo off "RIGHT NOW!" Trust me, my mom, right after falling out of bed is not a pretty sight... especially when she hasn't been sleeping well.
...note to self: never set music player to repeat disc... especially not when you're tired and people with good hearing are sleeping close by...
Wow, you've been writing for a very long time! You're so pro. I'll go with an expert's advice then. "Never give up, and practice, practice, practice. Keep trying." Okay, got it. Thanks! :)
It's always nice to know you're not the only one in the world. ;) That song "One X" by Three Days Grace is right, then. You're never alone. :) Speaking of music... You said you liked Evanescence. I gave it a listen on Youtube.com They're good, I like it! I especially liked the song "Everybody's Fool" which is kind of ironic, 'cause I also like a song called "Nobody's Fool" by Avril Lavigne...
"Call Me When You're Sober" is nice, too.
While I was searching up Evanescence, I stumbled on another rock-band, Seether. They're pretty awesome, too! Have you heard of them? I think their song "Fake it" is cool, even though it's got the F word in its chorus... that kind of sucks, but it's still good. I'd heard of them before as well, (Their name is mentioned on the Three Days Grace official website) but I didn't bother to try and find any of their songs.
Insa-
How does the guestbook work anyway? I mean like how do you receive the messages; by email? And how do you answer them? I've always been very inquisitive as you can see, and I would just like to know it all works... Sorry if my curiousity is bugging you... :)

Hi everyone, I'm just sneaking in here while my mom's out....
In case you didn't catch my entry a while ago, it was just saying I can't come to the guestbook anymore because my parents said so. And that includes some other online stuff I've been doing, like deviantART...:(!!!!
But my mom's out right now so I'm "visiting"...
I've noticed Alex and Mikil and some other people I used to talk to haven't written anything in a while either...and I have to admit with all this craziness called highschool I would be pressed for time even if I was allowed to be on here...so don't be too mad at them if you're missing them!!

Meggie2-
No, your English is fine. :) It's better than mine when I first came to Canada almost 3 years ago.
Yeah, Rosana12's stories are good. *sigh* I can't write at all...
Haha, yeah I agree English lessons are really boring, but you know, that kind of depends on the teacher and how they teach it... :)
Do you like math? I hate math, but the math teacher in my school actually makes algebra seem fun... (nein, wirklich!) honest!
Maybe if you had a better English teacher, English lessons wouldn't seem so lame anymore? :)
Amber Bradley-
Wow! You really love the Inkheart books, don't you? Yeah, they are good! Do you think it'd be easier to wait for the third book in English or learn German and read the German version, instead? I'm just wondering... What's your favorite character? I like Basta and Dustfinger. :) I mean it, I actually like Basta!
Daisy-
What's up? :) Exactly where is "somewhere in the middle of cornfields"? I'm just curious... ^_^
Insa-
Which messages do you usually read first, the English or the German ones? I just noticed I find it waaay easier to socialize on this site than in person... I wonder why? Maybe I'm just trying to avoid doing my homework, I guess...
Do you write very often yourself? I think it would be way cool, if I walked into a store one day and found a book by Insa Funke. :P If you do, do you ever think of publishing it? Maybe even just on this site, in this guestbook? :)
Gwyn (who is gonna get in trouble tomorrow at school for not doing her homework) ^_^

Hm. That's weird. I always thought qotd was spelt quote? I'm sorry, that's just really bugging me. Let me know if I'm wrong. :)
I've read the Artemis Fowl series, they're good! That exerpt is one of my favorites. I guess the one I REALLY love though is when the imp finds out he has the gift of tongues, and randomly yells out "Cappuccino". (from "Artemis Fowl and the Lost Colony" Book 5) On my list of favorite authors Eoin Colfer is right up there with Cornelia Funke and Christopher Paolini. ^_^
How do you pick your quote of the day anyway? Do you just open some book that happens to be lying around within your reach or how do you do it?
Oh yeah, for quotes, I really liked the book "The Dragon's Eye" book 1 in the Dragonology Chronicles, when Daniel looks through the keyhole in the door and the dragon chick flies straight at him. :) I don't know why I wrote that... Maybe you could use it for your quote of the day if you read that book? ^_^
I'm sorry am I rambling? I'll be quiet then...
Winnie-
If two months is a long time I don't wanna know what thirteen years would be... (I'm turning 13 in june, three months from now) so I still gotta wait a very long time, hey?
Wow, you have a horse? Lucky! Why do seemingly so many people have horses anyway? My best friend does, Horsefreak obviously does... I guess I probably wouldn't be responsible enough to care for one anyways.... *sigh* :(
Insa-
Okay, that's a relief... whew. :D I hope you're having fun all the way over there in Germany. Isn't the time difference from Germany to Vancouver, BC, Canada like NINE hours? Well, I've got bad marks in nearly all subjects. That's not because I'm stupid, but because I don't know what to say and I nearly never point up...
@Gwyn
I don't think you're a wimp. I often cry at night, too. I don't want anyone to see it, so I only do it when I'm alone...
And with writing: Don't worry, just keep trying, it will work. Some Day. When I began writing, I didn't manage to write more than one page. But now, after nearly eight years (okay, it was a very long time) I write and write and write... non stop. It was last year, that I finished my first "book". And now I'm writing the second. Well, I'm not very patient, too, but my friends always wanted me to go on ... so I did it. And now I'm really happy, I did it. So, don't give up, allright?
I often listen to Music as well. But I allways forget to turn it off, so it goes the whole night on and on... and I don't really realise it.
Yes, Homesickness is a very hard thing. I never was homesick when I relocated, but I think I know that it is hard. My friends often tell me about it. But I don't like staying at one place for some years anyway. I don't know why, but I hate it. So, when I'm an adult I want to live in a motorhome...

February 22, 2008
One of the men rose from the desk and began walking toward me, apparently to retrieve something from my side of the room. He was a big man, and as he approached I could see his hair was unkempt and his beard overgrown. I held my breath as he came closer still, almost right in front of me. he struck a matchstick and lit a another lamp that hung just to the right of the opening I was looking through. As the light flickered to life, I saw without a doubt what Darius had sent me to see.
This ragged looking man had a C branded squarely on his forehead.
A convict!

"It's too late," said the Skraeling.
"Too late for what?"
"Too late to stop. I have already sent a messenger bird. The Magisterium will know of your enquiries, and they will be glad to know about Grumman-"
"What about him?"
"The fact that others are looking for him. It confirms what we thought. And that others know of Dust. You are an enemy of the Church, Lee Scoresby. By their fruits shall ye know them. By their questions shall they see the serpent gnawing at their heart. . . "

"Check in", he whispered into the mike that wound snakelike from his helmet.
"Negative on one."
"Nothing, Captain."
"A big negatri, Trouble."
Captain Kelp winced.
"We're in the field, Corporal. Follow procedure."
"But Mommy said!"
"I don't care what Mommy said, Corporal! Rank is rank! You will refer to me as Captain Kelp."
"Yessir, Captain," sulked the corporal. "But don't ask me to iron your tunic anymore."
Trouble zeroed in on his brothers channel, shutting out the rest of the squad.
"Shut up about Mommy, will you? And the ironing. You're only on this mission because I requested you! Now start acting like a proffessional or get back to the perimeter!"
"Okay, Trubs."
"Trouble!," shouted Captain Kelp. "It's Trouble. Not Trubs, or Trub. Trouble! Okay?"
Okay. Trouble. Mommy's right. You're only a baby."
Swearing very unproffessionally, Captain Kelp switched his headset back to the open channel. He was just in time to hear an unusual sound.

Well... to tell the truth- I've WANTED to try writing for a very long time... I've finaly managed to write down some of my ideas... so far. I'm trying, I really am!!! I'm just not very good... yet. :) It takes practice doesn't it? I enjoy writing, but practice takes patience and I don't have much of that... :(
Yeah, I know what you mean with the beeps... I hate that! It gets on my nerves. I even changed the settings on my alarm-clock so now instead of beeping it plays the CD I put in it. :) Problem is, I tend to listen to music before going to bed, then I forget to lower the volume and when it wakes me up in the morning, it usually wakes up my neighbors as well. I fall out of bed and get in trouble but atleast I don't have to wake up to that irritating beep in the morning! It hurts my ears though... :/
^_^ I have alot of friends too... in Germany and in Canada. It would be impossible to fit them in one room, unless it was really huge. Plus most of them live in Germany (in Stuttgart). I've only managed to keep in contact with one of them (my best friend, Milena). I won't forget them, no matter how many new friends I make. Loyalty is very important to me. Sadly, this is also the reason I'm always homesick all the time... I hide it in school, but I cried myself to sleep every night for two years, because of it (and other things). I still do sometimes. I guess that makes me a wimp, but as I told you before I don't care what other people say about me. It doesn't matter anyway. :)

Thank you! When I first saw Farid, he didn't look the way I pictured him. I don't even know HOW I pictured him! Each day though, I like
him more and more.
Alice Cullen- My sister recently got me hooked on Twilight(okay, not recently, more like 3 days ago) I read Twilight in 2 days, and I'm now in the middle of New Moon. Edward is really aggravating me. He needs to come back, because Jacob is starting to get on my nerves. I thought that the bear was Emment at first (remember when they talked about how he was like a bear in Twilight?) I was very disappointed. In my mind, Emment is my older brother too. *sigh* I guess I need to just finish the book.
Insa- Thank you so much for all you do for the website. I'm so excited when I see something new on here. Thanks!! Do you know when the next chat will be?

Well, I've listened to Three Days Grace by now... they're cool. Evanescene is a rock band, too. My favourite song from them is "Call me back when you're sober".
Are you writing stories? I write and I couldn't live without it. At least not longer than two months. I tried it once.
I've got many friends, I don't even know the names of all of them, but I love being alone, too. And when I meet all my friends together in a not really big room, usually I get headache. That's because they can't be silent.
Do you know these bothersome ring tones which just are a very high peep? In my class are some people with this ring tone and when I'm in a bus with them I get mad, just because of this stupid peep.

well, okay tan is more of a skin tone than a color... it's like when you were out in the sun for a long time (and you didn't forget to put on sunscreen) your skin gets a little darker. It's kind of yellowish-brown. It's a nice colour. :) Atleast I think so, anyway...
My father is german. I have lived in Germany for ten years before moving to Canada in 2005. So if you do the math... I'm almost thirteen. :D Only three more months til' my birthday in June...
Three Days Grace is a rock band. Search up Three Days Grace on Youtube.com you might like them. My favorite songs by them are "Never Too Late" and "Pain". I think Pain is an emo song, but I like it anyway... :)
YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT PICKLES ARE?!?! That's sad. That's very sad. Well, do you know what cucumbers are? Pickles are like mini-cucumbers. They just taste better and are kinda wrinkly... I love pickles. :)

Hi. I haven't been here before, and I feel out of the loop because everyone seems to know everyone and has guest-booked so many times. D: Anyways, I just wanted to say that I adore Farid from Inkheart/Inkspell, and I cried so much when he died that it took me a week to pick up the book again finish the story and find out that he didn't... actually... really... die. ^^' But then I cried when Dustfinger died, because he was my second favorite character. I've read the books over and over for the last week, because they're those books that don't have the best plot or characters (except for Farid--and that's only my opinion, don't hurt me for saying that D: ) but they make you feel good inside when you read them. <3 But now I have to do what I did with Inkheart--bury them in my closet and read other stuff like Alice in Wonderland and Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game/Shadow and sequels, and Lord of the Rings books 1-3, and the Jungle books, and The Winter Price and sequels, and the Bartimeus (I butchered that word) Trilogy and Pride and Prejudice and other books by Jane Austen and watch V for Vendetta and Everything is Illuminated and the Harry Potter series and Lord of the Rings (movies) over and over again and maybe even find a new book or two that looks good, or take one from my bookshelf that I haven't read in a while---until the day that Inkdeath comes out, and hope that it is and hope that is isn't the last one in the series. I have to hope that it is because I don't want to go through that last run-on sentence again, and hope that it isn't because they're such wonderful books. D: Regarding the movie, I think the choice of actors is wonderful, even if Brendan Fraser's little bits of hair in front of his face that stick up annoy me a teeny bit. -_- The boy who plays Farid is amazing (<3 <3 <3) and he looks soooo good with Meggie (whose outfits I LOVE--especially that one she's wearing in the picture of her and Farid sitting on a wall--with the SOCKS). In the books, their chemistry is so perfect and realistic, it's not just "O.O I LOVE YOU ME TOO LET'S MAKE OUT *SMOOCH*" it goes along at a...nice pace. : P
Anyways, yeah, I love the books and I'm having issues waiting for the next one. <3 I also trust Cornelia (which sounds weird, because I've never met her) not to let the producers get too off-track from the movie, like they did with Eragon (I absolutely hated the book in the first place--but the movie made it worse) and to keep it realistic, and by the pictures, they have, so far.
I just have one question, and I'm sorry if it's somewhere on the site, I just couldn't find it at all when I looked through pages. In that picture (http://images.allmoviephoto.com/2008_Inkheart/2008_inkheart_004.jpg) where Elinor, Meggie, Farid, Dustfinger and Mo are coming out of a place into a massive amount of wind...what is that scene from? I don't remember anything like that from the book, though I might have just forgotten.

To Insa,
Thank you for the news that the movie IS actually coming out next year. At least now I know for sure... And I was looking forward to seeing that movie during Easter break, too!
To ALEX,
Glad I'm remembered! I sorta live in Washington... I go to school here, but I actually live near Detroit (hence the two locations). But I know exactlu what you mean... Everyone in school is absolutely crazy about those Twilight books, and there is someone planning to go to Forks, which is on the otherside of Washington... I'll let you know what happens... :):):) By the way, I got my snow day!! (two actually, and three late starts!)

| I love THE THIEF LORD. It is my all time favorite book/movie. I have seen the movie 5 times. I have been to 4 stores trying to find it on DVD. I love the story and the magic. When I sit at home and watch it, I feel as if it is all real, even the marry go round. And when I read THIEF LORD I could not put the book down. I wanted you to write a sequel, but it might have ruined the magic of the fisrt book. Besides, what would you right about. I am wondering why there is so much about the Inkspell books. I wish you would put more info about the THE THIEF LORD up. My friend and I are ThIEF LORD fanatics. She has read it 5 times and I have seen the movie 5 times. I love the story of orphans who are experts on surviving. And they have each other to depend on. It has drama, adventure, magic and comedy. It is the perfect book. I recommend it to all my friends. If you are not going to write a sequel, please write a book similar to it. |

| Hello. As you can see my name is Gabrielle. When I first started reading the Inkheart books, I started to write stories about un-sene lands of magic and dragons. They have inspired my to start to publish books in my school library. I am in 6th grade and I attend Newburg Middle School. There, (in my library) is where I came across Inkheart. Then when the book fair came,I saw that they had Inkspell, I bought it. My teachers call me "the book worm of the class." They even sugjest that I publish my poetry. Well my point is that I love Inkheart and Inkspell. Sincerly, Gabrielle Ackerman |

Fee-
I know Evanescence, but I've never actually heard any of their songs...
Three Days Grace is a rock band. Their name is actually a business term for three days to pay back a debt, but to them it represents a sense of urgency, to change your lifestyle... They sing about issues that people can relate to, and how, even though it may feel like it... you're not alone, you're not the only one. I really like the songs Never Too Late, Pain, and One X.
Yes I know what emo means. I'm kind of emo myself. :) (I don't cut myself either). Three Days Grace is actually very emo, so you might like them. Especially the song Pain.
Grundschule in English is Elementary School. It took me ages to figure that out!!! LoL. :D
I'm 12, turning 13 in june.
Haha, most of my friends are guys, too! But then again, I'm more of a loner anyway...
I don't think of myself as weird or strange... those are such harsh words.... I prefer "unique". :) I never listen to what other people say. It just doesn't matter to me. I always tell them to say what they like about me-- I won't care. We're similar, aren't we? That's nice to know. So the song One X is right... We're never the only ones! You really ought to hear that song, it's awesome!
Jessy-
Three Days Grace is a rock band. (Read what I wrote to Fee, I don't like to repeat myself)
I lived in Stuttgart, Baden Würtemberg. I went to Jakobschule (Jacob's School, in english). I didn't actually get past that, cause I moved to Canada after Elementary (Grundschule). That sucked but I WOULD have gone to St. Agnes Gymnasium, had I stayed. Funny gymnasium in english means like... a huge room to exercise in... a gym. That's confusing, because the german word means high school. :|
I lost my accent almost immediately, Now I rarely ever talk in German... and I could kick myself for it. But I'm sure if I returned to Germany I would pick it up again like that! *snaps fingers*
My hobbies are: reading, writing, drawing, tree climbing, being annoying, video gaming, playing guitar, computer, chatting, listening to music (pop or rock, and occasionally R&B)... that kind of stuff.
What I love about Canada is how many trees there are! I'm completely obsessed with climbing trees. I love the nature... I also like the snow.
I hate the cold wind chill (it takes all the fun out of the snow) and how you have to dress like a snowman every winter because it's so frickin' freezing! *shiver*
You said I could tell you anything, right? Okay. This is something: Everytime you drink water, you're actually drinking dinosaur pee. It's true, I swear. And this is something, too: They don't get the bugs off your cereal before proccessing it. There's usually about 75 insect body parts in every cereal box. It's not on the list of ingredients, but it's there anyway. I'm not lying. Seriously.
What?!?!? You SAID (quote) "Tell me something, irgendetwas!" So I told you something. If you didn't want to know any of those things, be more specific next time. I mean it. You can't trust me. Ever. I'm evil. Get used to it. >:) (mwoo-haha-haha!)
Insa-

Well, 3 pages are much! Sometimes I’m very happy when I just have wrote one and half a page. Do you have holidays at the moment? I think I’ll be very old, when I’ve finished my book, too.
Yes, I think it was parking in reverse ;-) Oh yes, let me know!
@Gwyn
My name is Tanja, so my nicknames ar Tan and Tanne... Oh so long since you’ve spoken German? But it’s good, though.
Rogue is a person in a movie called X-Men. I like this person very much and well I called myself Rogue in the German guestbook. Actualy I don’t know weather this name has any sense. Tan is a colour? Rally? Er, which one?
I live in Bavaria. Is one of your parents German or where and how did you learn German so well? And have you ever lived in Germany?
I’m listening to Avril Lavigne, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Linkin Park, Good Charlotte, ...
Well I know Juli, but I don’t know wether she has a new song. Yes I know Die perfekte Welle, it’s on one of my singstar games.
No I don’t think you’re talking too much. I write as much as you and if you’re not bothered of reading, then you have to stop ;)
I don’t know Three Days Grace...
I go to an eight-year-secondary school or is it grammar school? I’ve heared so many translations for Gymnasium, you can’t imagine! I’m 14 and you?
Sorry, but what exactly are pickles?

Hi Gwyn
I don't know the band Three Days grace- What kind of music do they do? Avril Lavgine is okay, I love her song Innocence (but I can't translate it into german). As you can see now I have her new album. "Best Damn Thing" is good, too - and Girlfriend :) And you like my absolutely favourite sond - "Breakin' Dishes" by Rihanna. I love it :) And you're right - I don't really care about what you're thinking about "Lovesongs".
Well, you lived ten years in Germany - so I have questions for you :) : Where did you lived? (Which part, Bundesland?) Which school did you visit (after the Grundschule)? Please, tell me something! I'm really curious as you can see now. And, yeah, it's confusing. All these languages ... Sometimes I really THINK in English! Then I ask myself whether I am .... I don't know :) I'm 13, turning 14 on Sunday - when you read this message I'm 14.
What are your hobbies? And what do you love in Canada? What do you hate? - Tell me something, irgendetwas! I'm soooo curious! - But I think I should be quite now, too - So it's time to say goodbye till your next message. |

OH!! Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry!! I hadn’t the time to come often in the GB and when I had time for the Corneliaside, I go in the German GB!
I don’t know, if you remind you at your entry, because it’s a long time ago, you had white it.
Now, I had the time to answered. And I promise to come more often in the English GB!
I think to, Fenoglios Character is stupid!
I had got my English test last Monday back. It wasn’t so good. I hope, my English is a little bit correct, but I’m not convinced.
_____@Alex_____
I think America is interesting! Near the village, where I’m living is a American restaurant, and I really like the fingerfood and the burgers (the burgers are better than the burgers of MC Donald), but I didn’t eat there often, ‘cause we must eat well food, too.
I think the live in America must be interesting and maybe a little bit easily than in German. I don’t know if had that asked you, but do you have already visit Europe? Which state was it?
If you don’t live in the ‘Bid Apple’, do you can go with a daytrip in New York? Is it a long time to drive from your house to the ‘Big Apple’. My English teacher has told us, how big America is, and that California bigger than German and Switzerland together. I can’t imagine how big America and the states a lone must be. Has our teacher distended?
I live on the land. We drive one hour to Stuttgart. This City is in the south-west of German. If we want to go to Berlin, we must drive 7 hours.
I go in a Choir, too. This time we sing songs like ‘you rice me up’ and ‘Dancing queen’…
I don’t know if you heard of these songs, I don’t know and I don’t know which music you have in the charts. The 2 songs are old.
You think, the teenagers of America only are sometimes don’t care anything. I think all people some times are so. In German, it says, often things like every 3. children are to fat. Sometimes it says every 6. children are to fat. It is possible, the Americans are so, but I’m not mat about yours.
Oh, you have this time the election. We had washed a little bit on TV of this in our English lesson, it interesting. I’m curious how the election will end!
Bye! Huges! <3

It's more hard to speak english, than to write! I can't speak english. When I write, I know most of the vocabulary but when I speak... then I lost them. English is an easy language. I like it! And I like, it to watch movies in english.
Here in germany it's cold and where I live, it's raining. Stupid weather! I hope, it's going better.
I've think over to go for a short time to england, but... I'm fearing, my english is to bad. And I can't understand people so good, that speak english. When I read it, I can understand. It's interesting: At one time I've read an entry of this guestbook and later I wasn't sure, it was an entry of the German or English guestbook. And that's good.
@Insa: What do you think? Should I go to england? (That's a stupid question, but perhaps it helps me).

Well, I think I like English more. But that's not unusual in my family. My uncle lives in London and other relatives live in Seattle. My parents are divorced as long as I can remember or even longer. Because of this I don't really know my father. I know his favourite colour and things like this, but that's not all, isn't it? Sometimes I even think he's not interested in me at all. And I don't like his wife but I have to visit him all three weeks at the weekend. I know "Complicated" by Avril Lavigne. The other songs I don't know. And I don't even know Three Days Grace but maybe I'll find something in YouTube... Do you know Nightwish or Evanescence? In the "Grundschule" (I don't know the word in English) I had just one friend and this one friend was a boy so everybody laughed at us. But now I've got many friends. We all are a not like the rest so nobody wants to speak with us. In school I often hear things like "Sch*** Emo" but I don't pay attention to it. Do you know what an Emo is? Here in Germany most Emos cut theirselfs but because I don't do this I don't count myself to them. I just like the colour black very much and I show it. By the way, how old are you? I'm 13.

Inkhearttrilogyluvr-
What part of Canada do your cousins live in? I agree, it IS cold. I'm not quite used to it yet (I've only been in Canada for almost 3 years)... I can't remember the color green anymore. In my mind it has been replaced by white. Where there should be grass, there's snow. Or maybe that's just because it's winter. ^_^
Fee-
I'm not sure which language I prefer. Three years ago, my answer would have been "Ich mag Deutsch viel besser als Englisch." Now that I've lost my German accent, and am having a little trouble speaking it... I would feel more comfortable with English. But I really don't want to lose my German though; and I am very loyal to my German buddies... so I'd have to say German is my favorite language, but I feel more comfortable with speaking English.
You asked why my dad lives in Germany. Well, the real question is- Why do I live all the way over here in Canada? Long story short- my parents simply cannot get along. They can't live in the same country or even on the same continent together without fighting. So my dad's in Europe, and my mom's in North America. I'm too young to live by myself, so I have to live with one of them, since it's impossible to live with both. Naturally I didn't get any say at all, when they decided whom I should live with. My opinion doesn't count. I wanted to stay in Germany with my dad. But my mom won the rock-paper-scissors (or whatever it was they used to decide) and now I'm stuck with her. Too bad, so sad.
No, I've never even heard of Queen. Yes, I know both songs you mentioned by Avril Lavigne. I know all her songs. Even the ones she didn't put on any of her three albums. Try me. Do you know her songs "Falling Down" and "Freak Out"? How about "Nobody's Home" and "Complicated"? Do you listen to Three Days Grace? I like them almost as much as I like Avril Lavigne.
As for nicknames... my old German friends used to. But they were slightly offensive to me, even though I know they were just kidding. Therefore I won't mention any of them. Here in Canada... I'm more of a loner, really. It doesn't matter to me though, cause I prefer to hang out with imaginary friends, anyway. Which is why some people know me as "the loner" or "the daydreamer". Not very creative if you ask me. I've only managed to keep in contact with one of my old German friends. Everytime I try to write or email to any of the others, the message comes back as a failure. I call and it's always the wrong number. This has isolated me even more, but to tell the truth, that's fine by me. I've always been better off alone anyway. No offense.
Insa-
Lucky you! It's cold here. The snow is just beginning to thaw. It's hard to find the right clothes to wear, cause it's freezing cold in the morning and boiling hot in the afternoon. I'm not even kidding, it's true. I'm shivering when I'm waiting for the bus to school and sweating when I'm walking home. A heavy backpack full of Junior High Homework doesn't make it any easier either. :(

He waited in the car, not appearing to watch as I shut the door behind me without bothering to lock the deadbolt. I walked to the car, pausing shyly before opening the door and stepping in. He was smiling, relaxed-and, as usual, perfect and beautiful to an excruciating degree.
"Good morning." His voice was silky. "How are you today?" His eyes roamed over my face, as if his question was something more than simple courtesy.
"Good, thank you." I was always good-much more than good-when I was near him.
"He" is Edward and "I" is Bella. That's all I'm saying. If that's not enough I don't know what is. Twilight is an awesome awesome oh my gosh so wonderful great breathtaking seriously honestly wonderfully too good to be true book. Hey y'all! Wuz crackin? Lol! Jk jk! So I've been like wiggin out about the "Twilight" movie (it seems to be popular among many readers including those of "Inkheart" or else I wouldn't be mentioning it), which by the way they are doing an awful job of casting for, but I come to this oh-so-adored webbie and see that, holy crap, the movie date has been pushed back a YEAR! What is going on? So distressed and depressed little Heather went to www.imdb.com and decided to look up "Twilight" for lack of better things to do and, even more aggitated than before, moseyed on over to "Inkheart"'s page and saw that the release date has been set for April 30th. I'M SO CONFUZZLED! HELP ME INSA!!!
To Audrey: I LOVE Tokyo Mew Mew! I own the whole first series and the 2nd (last) book in the sequel series. They are amazing and I'm obsessed!
To Gwyn: I have cousins from Canada. They came down during Christmas for the first time in like six years. It was like twenty degrees and we were like huddling against the fireplace and they were like "You wimps!" LoL! Doesn't get too cold in Tennessee but they're used to the cold.

Wow, you wrote that yourself? That's really good! *Sigh* I'm such an awful writer. I'm trying but your excerpt is just so much better than anything I could ever write... Good Job! I'll try and learn from you. Maybe you (or anyone, really) could give me some handy pointers? ^_^
Insa-
How's everything going, over there across the world? Is it cold in Germany? Have you ever been to Canada? Am I asking too many questions? Well, have a great day, anyway!
~Gwyn~
PS What is your occupation, Insa? How old are most of tthe people in the guestbook? I'm almost thirteen, and I was just wondering if there's anybody my age here...
*** Hi Gwyn, here in Germany it's quite warm. We had some beautiful sunny days, but now it's raining again. I've never been to Canada, only to the USA.
I studied English Literature and Art History. I started working for Cornelia four years ago. I answer her German and British fan mail, I take care of her website and I am contact person for all general questions.
As for the guestbook, I think the average guestbook buddy is around 12 years old.
Warmest wishes from Germany! Insa :- ) *** |

Hey everybody. How you guys been, my days have been swamped with wedding plans. Thats right, I said it, WEDDING PLANS! Grinsa's getting married! And I gotta be best man! It's so crazy here, I'm in my writing shed in the back yard, trying to get away from everything and everyone.

Hi Gwyn,
may I ask why your dad still lives in Germany? I'm just a bit curious... What language do you like more, German or English? I think I like Englisch more, but I don't know why. I like Avril Lavigne, too. Do you know "My Happy Ending" and "Sk8terboy" from her? And did you ever listen to Queen? Well, I'm asking too much questions again. When I begin to ask, I can't really stop... |

It was a song. The Siren Song. It was Jessaloup's voice, and he was singing the song. . . just for me.
There is no band, no recording, no CD, that will ever come close to the song I heard that evening-Jessaloup's Song of Songs, the most beautiful and the most moving music in the whole world. It was a song of hope, a song of promises, a song of a lifetime. It told of the sea, and the sky, and the joy of being a whale. It told of the friendship between a whale and a mermaid, and it tried to describe that great muddle of feelings that makes you feel happy and sad and powerful and nervous, all at the same time. The song's notes cascaded over me and sent thrills right through me, making me forget my pain. It cradled me in a cloud of glory. It told me what I already knew: that nothing in the world would ever be this important again. I felt tears of wonder trickling down my cheeks.
