Exilio
We, of exilio are taking care of refugees, torture survivors and their
families. This means, we help people who had to leave their native country
because of persecution or wars and who are looking for protection here
with us in Germany.
With us the refugees find psychological support to be able to process their bad
experiences. However, we also offer quite practical help so that people find
the way from Turkey, former Yugoslavia or from Africa in Germany – for
them a foreign country with unknown language and culture. The refugee children
also need support: Our homework support as well as the playing and sports groups
help the little ones to make friends in the kindergarten and at school.
Often the refugee children had to see terrible things, some have lost even their
parents. When they come to Germany then, they also have to fight with communication
difficulties. Firstly they must learn the German language to make new friends
and to find their way in the new surroundings. We of exilio try to help them
at this task. Moreover, it is important that they meet children who have suffered
similarly so that they do not feel alone or lost. Then they notice that also
others have to cope with problems, however, that one can also cope with these
difficulties together.
In the playing and sports groups the children and teenagers of exilio can meet
friends, play and rage with them in the afternoon after the kindergarten or after
school. Because the children are usually accommodated together with their whole
family in very small apartments, it is important that they have a contacting
place in the afternoon. If they are sad, our employees help and comfort them.
Unfortunately, the German state gives us hardly any money for these important
tasks. Therefore, we are dependent on people who support us with donations. Cornelia
Funke has already been a promoting member of our organization for many years
and has supported us where she can. We are very grateful for it.
